EDUCATION

The Guildhall School of Music and Drama

1994-1998

If it wasn't for this place.. I wouldn't be where I am today.

I worked as a wine waiter nearly every night for 4 years, starting at 6pm and finishing at 1am, plus a huge student loan and a full 4 year grant  just to chase my dream of studying at the 'Guildhall'.

This is where i put the hours and hours and HOURS of practice in to perfect my craft. Not only did I study the trombone, but I listened, copied, asked questions, arranged, produced and left with some of the greatest players and life long friends that I still have today.

I received the, joint, highest final recital grade in the year, to achieve this being the 1st year to study Jazz on the undergraduate course was something that I'm very proud of, even more so than my degree.

University College Salford. Royal Northern College of Music

1992 - 1990

I studied  A-Levels at 'Salford University'. The great thing about this, was that I was able to study Trombone and Piano at a place where more established/older musicains were doing there degree.

'Salford' had a great Brass band course and a fantastic popular music course. These 2 courses ment that they were hundreds of AMAZING Brass players practicing in the corridors every day..these guys could rip through the 'Arban Studies' without breaking a sweat, whilst in other practice rooms...Mancunian Singer Songwriters and rock musicians were perfecting the art of playing 3 chords with more soul and vibe than there 'Rock God' heros.

The influnece of Salford ment that I was playing gigs at 'Band on the Wall', 'PJ Bell's' and 'Night and Day' on the Friday night but then up early the next morning to perform Concerto's both on the Trombone and Piano along side 5 year old child prodogeys that were 10 times better than me, at the prestigious 'JUNIOR ROYAL NORTHERN'.

An unshaven, 6ft 3, earing wearing lad from Burnley being called 'A JUNIOR' every Saturday, holding hands with the children to make sure they walked on stage correctly.. then continued to blow me out of the water with musicality and technique. Tough times for the ego but amazing to be a part of looking back.

I was probably the weakest student in the whole building, but within 2 years I managed to get to a resonable level to be lucky enough to be accepted into 'Guildhall' in LONDON!! phew!

INTERESTS

Music takes up 99 per cent of my life. However, I think it is important to try and do other things ( helps keep the mind open)

I love travelling and through work I have probably been to most of the major cities in the world ( a few times)

I try to eat well and stay fit, cycling and gym plus I'm a member of a Badminton club that play for 4 hours every week. They are all VERY good, so I like to go, just to practice my apologies.

I love films and plays. I quite fancy myself as a film director or photographer. I am skilled with 'Final Cut', 'After Effects', 'Photo Shop' and have filmed and edited a few videos for people in the past and hope to do more in the future. My fascination with people and social situations are what I hope to focus on..Watch this space.

I'm a student of NLP, Life stratergy and Hypnosis. How the mind works is incredible.
